“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Romans 12:2)
Lilly Endowment’s Clergy Renewal Programs are administered by the Center for Pastoral Excellence at Christian Theological Seminary.
Before reading any further, be sure not to feel prejudiced that the program is administered by a Protestant seminary. If an Orthodox parish is successful in receiving a grant, the priest works with his own parish to develop a program. The grant program offers many benefits and blessings for an Orthodox pastor and his congregation.
Lilly Endowment grantmaking to religion is over $75,000,000 a year. They are one of the largest and most professional foundations in America and by far the largest donor to theological education. If you are considering a grant proposal be sure you cross every “T” and dot every “i”. During the years at St. Vladimir’s Seminary I wrote grant proposals that received approximately three million dollars in funding including many grants from the Lilly Endowment, one of which was $1.2 million.
Through its religion grantmaking, Lilly Endowment, an Indianapolis-based, private philanthropic foundation, seeks to deepen and enrich the lives of American Christians. It does this largely through initiatives to enhance and sustain the quality of ministry in American congregations and parishes.
To this end, National and Indiana Clergy Renewal Programs provide an opportunity for pastors to step away briefly from the persistent obligations of daily parish life and to engage in a period of renewal and reflection. Renewal periods are not vacations but times for intentional exploration and reflection, for drinking again from God’s life-giving waters, for regaining enthusiasm and creativity for ministry.
Details and application materials for the 2015 programs are now available. In the 2015 Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal Program and the 2015 Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Program for Indiana Congregations, eligible congregations will be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000 each to support a renewal program for their pastor. Up to $15,000 of the grant may be used for congregational expenses associated with the renewal program.
The Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal Program at Christian Theological Seminary is a competitive grants program open to Christian congregations that have an ordained pastor who has a M.Div. degree from a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools. CTS plans to award as many as 125 grants to the congregations that submit the most outstanding proposals.
