Fr. Anthony L. Scott

Fr. Anthony grew up on Air Force bases throughout the south. He holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Divinity degree from St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary.

He has served as an ordained priest since 1974. After many years of parish service, Fr. Anthony worked from 1987-1999 as the Chief Advancement Officer of St. Vladimir’s Seminary. While there, he directed all fundraising operations of the school including principal and major gifts, grant-writing, planned giving, the annual fund, direct mail, prospect research and a $22 million capital campaign. He was personally responsible for the solicitation of $25 million in gifts and commitments and successfully wrote grant proposals for more than $4 million.

He has worked extensively as a consultant to various national, international and local 501(c)(3) organizations within the Orthodox Church. He provided counsel on board development, fundraising strategies, capital campaigns, volunteer management, fundraising position analyses, feasibility studies, grantsmanship and strategic planning in the nonprofit environment.

Laura J. K. Paulus

Laura was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and graduated from Northwestern University with undergraduate degrees in Political Science and French Studies. She has studied Philanthropy through the Fund Raising School at Indiana University, and has received her Certificate in Fund Raising Management.

She has worked for more than 10 years as a management consultant with Andersen Consulting. Working in partnership with many clients in a variety of industries, she helped each to be more competitive and successful. She has led project teams of dozens of people through complex, multi-million dollar, multi-year efforts. By transitioning into the field of Church Development, she brings leading-edge business development skills to help the Orthodox Church. She has worked professionally with a number of parishes and Orthodox Christian organizations on capital campaign planning studies, strategic planning, and annual giving programs.

Laura is an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, working in programs at a variety of levels: parochial, diocesan, national and international. Her first experience in parish development was as a member of a 20-member mission parish that has grown into a thriving congregation. She has been a member of two short-term Orthodox Christian mission teams in Tanzania and Galilee and is active in leading Young Adult League and local mission efforts. She lives in Chicago and is a member of St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines.

Robert J. Simonds

Mr. Simonds joined Ketchum, Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, in 1955 after an eleven-year career in public relations with Aluminum Company of America. He began as an associate campaign director and rose through the ranks, becoming manager of the New York office in 1971. Mr. Simonds was named vice president in 1973 and executive vice president in 1985. He counseled a wide variety of clients throughout the United States and Great Britain. Well-acquainted with the Orthodox community, he served as primary consultant to St. Vladimir Seminary’s $22 million capital campaign and worked with the Greek Orthodox Church of the Three Hierarchs in Brooklyn, St. John the Theologian Greek Orthodox Church in Tenafly, NJ, and Project Mexico/St. Innocent’s Orphanage in Chula Vista, CA.

He served private educational institutions such as Bowdoin College, Carnegie-Mellon University, Cornell University, Georgetown University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and St. John’s University. Public institutions served by Mr. Simonds include the State University of New York (SUNY) in Albany, Brockport, Buffalo, Fredonia, and Purchase; Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey; Southern Illinois University, and the University of Illinois in a recent oversubscribed $1 billion campaign.

Mr. Simonds also counseled numerous community and regional health and human-service organizations, including Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. In addition, he counseled the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY; the Preservation Society of Newport, RI; Rensselaer County Historical Society, Troy, NY; and the Royal Oak Foundation, the American arm of the National Trust of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Actively involved in professional affairs, he as held leadership positions with the American Association of Fund-raising Counsel, (AAFRC), Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP).
