“The whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:16)
The following schematic is provided to those parishes that desire to grow their stewardship effort and achieve better results. It reaches beyond the classic method of mailing an appeal letter with pledge card then relentless reminders to everyone to get their cards in.
The schematic assumes that the stewardship campaign might be composed of three differentiated methods of approaching parishioners:
- Send the classic appeal letter and pledge card to most families
- Personally write to perhaps 10-20% of the others with a follow up phone call learning of their response to the requested increase
- Personal meetings with the priest and/or stewardship chair and/or stewardship team member with another 5-10% of parishioner families for a personal request of a gift commitment commensurate with their perceived ability to give.
Employing these three methods over a course of several years and changing up how each family is approached will accord to the leadership the personal opportunity to humbly, politely and diplomatically discuss the giving of each family and dramatically increase the amount of gift support that is received each year.
